TIL Archimedes is recorded to have died in a math related killing. The most common story is that he was too busy solving a math problem to follow orders from Roman soldiers and was killed, or that he was found with scientific instruments that were mistaken as valuables and killed for them.

TIL there is a meditative practice that people do called Sungazing. It’s where people stare directly at the sun in hopes of clearing their mind and becoming more focused. But there is no scientific research to support these claims and staring at the sun can lead to blindness in the worst cases.

TIL that American nuclear physicist Edward Condon was targeted by the House Un-American Activities Committee for being at the forefront of the “revolutionary movement” of quantum mechanics. Condon responded that he believed in scientific advancements and didn’t ask if they were made by Communists.
