TIL that a gothic soap opera ran in the 60s and early 70s called Dark Shadows. This show was focused on the lives of the Colins family who’s characters dealt supernatural monsters and being such as vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches, and other creatures.

TIL that flames from a candle, lighter, bonfire etc, don’t have shadows, due to a shadow being formed by the inability of light passing through an object and flames putting off light!

TIL the Tuatara is neither lizard nor snake, but it’s own distinct order that dates back 250,000,000 years, making them a “living dinosaur.” They have a highly developed Parietal Eye on top of their head, connected to the brain, that allows them to sense differences in lights and shadows.

TIL that in the childbirth scene of “Gone with the Wind” only the actors’ shadows are shown not for artistic reasons but to get around the Hays Code rule prohibiting sexual activity and childbirth onscreen. Melanie, Scarlett and Prissy are literally shown only as shadows on a wall due to the rule.

My cousin used to say if you eat a bowl of cornflakes in front of a mirror at midnight and smack your lips seven times, a figure covered in eldritch darkness will lurch from the shadows and beat you to death with his picket sign.
