TIL In 2015 Lisa Federle, a German doctor introduced a “mobile doctor’s practice” to treat refugees in their emergency shelters as well as homeless people. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it became a mobile fever and smear clinic. In 2020, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her commitment.

TIL about the “Upside Down Boat Village” in France. Equihen-Plage, a former fishing village on the English Channel with a dry harbor, became a stranded port at the start of the 20th century. Poor families living in the village recovered the boat hulls to build makeshift shelters for themselves.

TIL In 1965, a Ukrainian farmer dug up the lower jawbone of a mammoth. Further excavations revealed the presence of 4 huts made up of a total of 149 mammoth bones. These ‘Mammoth Bone Huts’ dating back some 15,000 years were determined to have been some of the oldest shelters ever built by humans
