TIL that: In Medieval times, “Cockaigne” was an imaginary utopia for peasants where the sky rains cheese, and laziness was treasured above all else. It was meant to be a better place than the alcohol-free Christian heaven which only had fruit.

TIL about the Degenerate Era, where the stars in our universe will run out of fuel, and the starry night sky we see today will no longer exist. Aging stars and stellar remnants will be too cold to support life. It’s hypothesized to happen about 1 quintillion years after the Big Bang.

TIL Dinasours have lived in another part of the galaxy. Although this news is quite old, I learned today that dinosaurs wouldn’t have even seen the stars that we see today in the sky because they didn’t exist until millions of years after the extinction event.

TIL that radios can pick up AM signals from stations broadcasting from beyond the horizon because the signals are reflected in the Heaviside Layer, a layer of ionised gas in the Earth’s atmosphere, about 60-90 miles up. The Heaviside Layer acts like a mirror in the sky for radio waves.
