TIL of Minik Wallace, a Greenlandic child brought to New York in 1897 and studied by a museum, who held custody. After many of his companions died of tuberculosis, the museum faked a burial of his father and secretly put his skeleton on display. 20 years later, Minik would die in 1918 of influenza.

TIL Ruth Levi-Montalcini was kicked out of medical school under Mussolini’s Race Laws, moved to Brussels where she lived and studied until Hitler’s imminent takeover, and ended up setting up a laboratory in her bedroom back in Italy. In 1986, she won the Nobel Prize in Medicine and lived until 103.

TIL Rickenbacker had just created a 12 string electric guitar, and took the prototype to NYC in Feb 1964. Gave it to John, who gave it to George, who used it for A Hard Days Night. Roger McGuinn (Byrds) studied the instruments in the movie, and immediately ordered one, creating a signature sound.

TIL in 1961, Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara wrote a book called “Guerrilla Warfare”, which explained different tactics for waging guerrilla warfare in different countries. Bolivian counter-insurgency forces also studied this book, which eventually led to Guevara’s capture and execution in 1967.
