TIL A Brinks Trucks driver, Joseph Trombino was hit in the head with a bullet, survived the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing and died during September 11th. All while working for Brinks.

TIL Gene Roddenberry (creator of Star Trek) was a Pan Am jet pilot & survived a desert crash (Pan Am Flight 121) helping to rescue passengers post crash. Just prior to the crash he ran back to help everyone brace/prepare for impact. The entire remaining flight-crew in the cockpit were killed.

TIL about Private Jesse H. Hutchins. He enlisted with the Confederate Army five days after the shelling of Fort Sumpter in April 1861. He survived the entire war only to be killed on the final day of the war at Appomattox Courthouse

TIL of Jacklyn H. Lucas. 3 years after joining the Marines at age 14, he snuck onto a ship bound for Iwo Jima, stormed the beach without a rifle and threw himself on top of 2 grenades to protect his team. He survived and earned the Medal of Honor at age 17.

TIL the first blood transfusion from animal to human, was done by Dr. Jean-Baptiste Denys, physician to King Louis XIV of France. He transfused the blood of a sheep into a 15-year-old boy, who survived likely due to the small amount of blood transferred, helping to withstand an allergic reaction.

TIL about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911, wherein 146 garment workers died because of the factory owners’ decision to keep all exit doors locked to prevent theft and unauthorized breaks. The owners of the company survived and made roughly $400 per worker due to the insurance payout.

TIL in 1999 actor Rebecca Jackson Mendoza survived a stroke caused by a severed aorta after being stabbed in the heart by her husband. By 2005 she made a full recovery and was able to play Breha Organa in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Til that: Mr. Ramon Artagavetiya survived the sinking of a ship named America, close to the shore of Punta Espinillo in Uruguay in 1871, leaving him traumatized afterward. Around 40 years later, he was finally able to overcome his fears and sail again only to die when Titanic sank in 1912.
