TIL In 1974 at a Canadian army training base in Quebec, cadets were being trained to handle discarded explosives. A cadet asked one of the instructors if he could pull the pin on the grenade, and the instructor told him it was safe. It exploded, killing 6 cadets and injuring 65 others.

TIL Goldfish can recognise classical music. A study was done in which researchers played Bach and Stravinsky. The fish were first trained to bite a bead when they heard both, then only one and not the other, and finally just different clips of one. One fish preferred Bach and avoided Stravinsky.

TIL that during World War II, USAAF Col. Paul Tibbetts was frustrated with his pilots complaining about how hard it was to fly the new B-29 bomber. He arranged for two women WASP pilots to be trained on the big plane and had them fly it around the country just to shame the men. It worked.
