TIL about the jabuticaba tree, the Brazilian grape tree, it is unusual as the berries grow directly on the trunk. They are so popular in some Brazilian states the sidewalk is actually stained purple from their discarded skins of the fruit.

TIL that according to park guides at the Liwonde National Park in Malawi, in the 1950s, individuals infected with leprosy, both living and the recently dead, were bound and forced into a giant baobab tree’s hollowed-out trunk at the park and left there for nature to take its course.

TIL that the word “Barberchair” is when a tree trunk splits vertically while it is being cut down. … At some height, the top of the tree will separate from the lower and all that weight will be rolling off and coming down, sometimes from as high as 30-40 feet.
