TIL Italian architect Guiseppe Pettazzi built many Art Deco buildings in Asmara during Italy’s colonial rule of Eritrea including his most famous building, the Fiat Tagliero Service Station, which is modeled on an airplane design. In 2017, Asmara was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
