TIL a powerful hurricane split historic Captiva Island into two separate islands in 1921. The intensity of the storm cleaved the original island into what is now known as Captiva Island and North Captiva Island, and the storm’s devastation ended all agriculture on both of the newly formed islands.

I briefly lived and worked at a resort there and never knew this. Ironically, I was forced to leave when hurricane Charlie devastated the island in 2004.
