TIL about Ponte City, a 55 story circular apartment building in Johannesburg, South Africa. Built in 1975, in the 80s gang activity made the area very unsafe and garbage thrown into the open core reached 5 stories high. It has since been restored and is once again a desirable place to live.

Sounds like the base for the story of raid or judge dredd
I can’t imagine 5 stories worth of garbage. The most I’ve seen is 2 stories worth when I visited a Ross.

I didn’t read the article, but I can only imagine the roaches and rats living in a 5 story pile of garbage. Yuck.
