TIL about the graniteville train crash. In 2005 two Norfolk trains collided and released enormous amounts of toxic chlorine gas. 10 people were killed and over 250 had to be treated for chlorine gas exposure

I remember that. I lived nearby. So many people died because it happened in the middle of the night. Many pets died too. They quarantined the area while they cleaned it up. Planes couldn’t even fly overhead. It was too dangerous from the chlorine gas. I read an article in the paper that said one of the men killed was a truck driver who decided to park his truck and he died in his sleep. Tragic.
The National Transportation Safety Board has accident reports available to the public, most can be viewed on their website. Recommendations are included in the reports.
Damn…I kinda remember this as my folks lived not too far away on the other side of the Savannah River…
