TIL about the “Tilted Arc,” a slightly curved, leaning metal wall installed as art in front of a federal building in NYC in 1979. It immediately met with complaints and petitions for its removal, but remained in place until 1986. No other site wanted it, its now stored in a warehouse.

I can’t imagine why no one wanted it.
“Hey, do you want to put a piece of art that everyone complained about in the front of your building???”
That has got to be one of the most annoying art installations I’ve ever seen..
Being so inconvenient to everyone in the plaza it’s not surprising It received a lot of complaints and was removed
I just looked up photos of it, and I can see why people were unhappy. I think it’s beautiful and cool, but if I were running late to work one morning and had to walk all the way around this giant sculpture (when before I could walk straight through the space), I would be annoyed.
Instead of putting it in front of the wall, he should have installed it as the wall, then it would be art-chitecture and not art.
