TIL an 1873 US governor, Edwin McCook, beat up a constituent at a public meeting over a cigar disagreement. He was later shot by said person 4 times but still needed to be restrained from beating him up again.

McCook later died of blood loss the next day. The assailant responsible for killing him was acquitted. The corrupt governor that McCook replaced was later reappointed after his death.
Despite him being a corrupt bastard that’s still kinda funny that he needs to be held back from kicking the ass of the guy who shot him
