TIL in parts of Europe, you can find “Baby hatches” which are boxes placed near hospitals where parents can bring unwanted babies and leave them there

Let’s give credit to to Pastor Lee Jong Rak and ChunJa for creating the first “baby drop box” in South Korea. They are married and have a sanctuary for babies who were abandoned. Them and the staff are incredibly amazing.

All US states have Safe Haven laws.

You can do that in the US also. You can leave them at a hospital, a fire station, or a police station. No questions asked
and that’s the end of the story. good night everybody
I’m a First Responder. They do this because there was a mass outbreak where people were putting babies in dumpsters. I just can’t even imagine what goes through their head
It’s called “Window of life” on Poland.
I learned this was done centuries ago in Italy and other countries. There was an episode of Finding Your Roots where actor Chris Meloni’s ancestor was found by monks or nuns in their baby wheel and I think his name means orphan or something similar in Italian.
I’ll never forget [this tragedy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melissa_Drexler) and the media circus around it. I’m glad these alternatives are available.
Called window of life here at least, better alternative than doing an abortion at that stage.
Do they fit children of any age or just babies?
Yes and every town should have this!
Next step is a “take a baby, leave a baby” hatch, similar to the “take a penny, leave a penny” jars at cash registers.
Reminds me of how some US states developed a similar system. Where you could leave babies at a fire station. However because of the way that the law was worded, parents were dropping off their adolescent children to the fire station.

Not paywalled.

We have those in NA too, usually behind most stores, they are called dumpsters.
Can’t put older kids in there.
Yeah but nope.
What’s a world we live in
Ummm, question…
Why don’t these deadbeat mothers have to pay child support?
🚮
o
Sp how does it work legally speaking. Could for instance a dad leave their kid there on their visitation day to avoid having to pay child support? What about the mom in that same situation?
