TIL in the early fifties there was a nuclear test site just 65 miles away from Las Vegas. If you were staying at the right hotel you could literally watch mushroom clouds ride from the desert in the distance.

2. oh and btw the fallout would be carried to Utah due to the wind and cause cancers among the citizens

   also this was a popular tourist attraction for Las Vegas and they would even sell postcards commemorating the fact you can see the mushroom cloud just by standing in downtown vegas and watching vegas vic smirk next to it
