TIL that a 2009 study found that the majority of friendships only last about seven years. Although the number of friends a person has in their social circle remains fairly stable, turnover is high. Roughly 70% of a person’s friend group will change after seven years.

Yes, my friend group has remained a stable 0 from age 7 to age 37.
I’ve had the same core group of friends for 23 years. Guess it’s time to shake things up…
I think I would have been happier not knowing this fact.
Seems like that’s an average time for major life changes
High school, college, career changes, change of address, married, children etc. Obviously not all 7 years but these events generally cause turnover in close friend groups. Would be curious how this number changes with age.
