TIL the ice cream that Dairy Queen uses isn’t considered ice cream by the FDA. They classify it as ‘ice milk’ instead because the milk fat content in Dairy Queen soft serve is less than what regular ice cream has.

I worked at DQ for nearly 15 years. I’m almost certain the definition of ice cream changed and we were allowed to call it ice cream again in the 2010s. It could.be called ice cream with a lower milk fat level.
Isn’t Breyers now considered a “frozen dairy dessert”?
