TIL: The recommendation to walk 10,000 steps per day isn’t based on science or medicine but was likely made up to help sell pedometers in the 1960’s

Yep, so much purportedly good advice falls along these lines. Assertions like “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” are invariably used to sell Pop Tarts.
The number of steps might not be scientific, but it is scientifically proven walking is the best exercise a human being can do. “Motion is Lotion” is true in regards to your joints, etc.
10,000 steps a day aint shit if you are not eating correctly, if your diet is terrible, you need 30,000 steps a day and even then that won’t burn it. 10,000 steps a day is way up there on the BS meter with the BMI index. Keep on walking, walking is very important for your health.
Man thank God OP showed up with that tidbit of information, I’ll go ahead an disregard the 55 pounds I’ve lost in the last year by walking and just go ahead and sit on my ass for now on.
About time we stood up to Big Pedometer.
Well, at least sit up.
10,000 is quite a bit, I believe.
I can stay active throughout the day and take the dog for a 30-minute walk and still end up around 6,000.
