Today I learned that humming birds migrate South for the winter like all other birds. A red throated hummingbird weighs less than a penny and can fly a 500 mile trip from the USA to Mexico in a single day.

  1. That’s pretty amazing considering how the same ones set up camp for the entire summer, around the hummingbird feeder. They could just boogie three miles away to another feeder. But I do know it takes a lot of energy for them to stay airborne so they spend most of their lives perched. But hundreds of miles in a day? Holy cow.
