Where the Wild Things Are
Shrek. A few personality changes and it would be pretty scary
Toy story just look at that one scene with sid
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
All of them. Any cute monster movie is immediately less cute if the cute monsters eat humans. On screen. With gore.
Home alone.
I’d say the movie “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” qualifies.
Pinocchio

Coraline basically already is one.
Obvious answer is Monsters Inc
Sinister
Goonies
E.t
Nightmare Before Christmas
No happy ending for Santa
Idk if Mrs Doubtfire counts as a kids movie, but its definitely a family movie and rated PG. Most of us saw it as kids.
Incompetent father dresses as an old woman so he could hang out with his kids and spy on his ex wife? That could easily be a horror movie
The Brave Little Toaster already has plenty of nightmare fuel scenes in it. Take out the happy ending and throw in more footage of obsolete appliances exploding or getting crushed and another few shots of flowers dying of loneliness and you’re set.
