TIL: A rattlesnake’s rattle doesn’t work like a maraca, with little bits shaking inside. The rattle is actually a bunch of loosely interlocking segments made out of keratin.

My grandpa had a couple of bracelets made out of rattlesnake hide with some silver bits holding the rattle in it. As a 5 year old, they were cool.
Apparently rattlesnakes are getting quieter too. As the ones which rattle the most are more likely to be killed off.
How did you NOT know that already?! I had no clue and actually find it fascinating
