Expecting it to be legislated and lobbied out of service, just like with the California line
Republicans and anyone else who get paid by auto and oil lobbyists will never let that happen.
I seem to remember a similar story with the acela from Boston to NYC to DC around the early aughts, and they couldn’t achieve the higher speeds they advertised for a whole bunch of reasons…stations and tracks couldn’t handle the higher speeds iirc.
It’d be nice but I’m not holding my breath.
I’ve never understood the drive to have passenger trains run long distance at such high speeds. The only thing trains excel at is efficiency, but they lose that when they travel fast, making them not any better than airplanes while also requiring far more infrastructure.
A regular-speed train is really efficient, though.
