TIL a “whisper chamber” is a large elliptical room where a person standing at one focus can hear a person standing at the other focus remarkably well. The National Statuary Hall at the US Capitol is where John Quincy Adams is said to have used this property for eavesdropping on political matters

It has a whisper area as well with no roof to bounce the sound off of. Admittedly its not as good as the one mentioned by the OP. but it sure as hell works.
