TIL about Angus Barbieri, a Scottish man who fasted for 382 days straight and lost 276 pounds (125kg). He only consumed black coffee, tea and vitamins. He did not suffer any negative effects from not eating.

You might want to add that this was done under constant medical supervision. We wouldn’t want anyone here fasting for over a year on their own.
Yes, that’s how the body works.
If it gets all the nutrients and vitamins it needs, it burns fat for energy, and then muscle and then whatever’s left.
