  1. One of Marvelous Marvin Hagler’s last matches, against Thomas “The Hit Man” Hearns, was initially billed as “The Fight” but was later called [“The War.”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaOTSMB6hLQ) While it lasted only eight minutes it is considered the best three rounds in boxing history. The challenger, Hearns, broke his hand in the first round, Hagler, who had only been knocked down once, was staggered. Those three minutes are often called the greatest round in boxing. Both fighters were known for throwing more punches per round that many others, that was on full display.

By the second round Hearns later admitted he was done. He was exhausted from the blistering pace of the first round but still defended himself.

The fight was nearly stopped in the third round because of the prodigious amount of blood flowing from a cut about Hagler’s eye. Concerned that he’d be disqualified, Hagler went all out, stunning Hearns with two punches to the forehead, then knocking him down. Hearn staggered to his feet but was in no condition to fight and the referee called the match for Hagler. Hearn appeared to be out on his feet for several minutes after the fight, and had to be carried to his corner for medical attention.

  2. I met him in North Conway, NH, Having a beer, nice guy. We went outside, he sat on my husbands Harley, I hopped onto the back, got a pic of Marvelous and me on our bike! His hands were huge.
