TIL about the “Kapsalon” – a Dutch dish named after a hairdresser consisting of a layer of fries in a disposable metal tray, topped with gyro meat, covered with slices of Gouda cheese, a layer of lettuce, garlic sauce and hot sauce.

Sounds delicious!
Extra info: a hairdresser (from a barbershop = kapsalon) had but short breaks and asked the kebab store to just chuck it in a tray and reheat what was on hand so he could easily take it and eat it. At some point other customers said ‘gimme what he’ s having’. And kapsalon was born.
This is brilliant. As someone who grew up in the area, seeing this gain international recognition makes me beyond proud of this absolute abomination!!
In Australia these are often called Halal Snack Packs. Unless you happen to have red hair and run a fish and chips shop in Queensland, in which case you pretend they don’t exist.
“We saw the poutine and made our own”
Yes yes yes yes
Sounds like a good meal.
I see it uses something called “sambal”… is that like salsa/picante?
Heart attack
It’s basically a oven dish but served a lot quicker and full of calories. But since it’s mostly served at halal food places it’s not junkfood.
I’ll take two!
This was my go-to quick food when I lived in the Netherlands. SO good!
Why even bother with the lettuce tbh
I am salivating at the prospect of this.
