TIL about the manzanilla de la muerte or “little apple of death”, one of the most toxic trees in the world. The milky white sap present in every part of the tree is so toxic that standing beneath the tree during rain is enough to cause one’s skin to blister.

Interesting:
“When ingested, the fruit is reportedly “pleasantly sweet” at first, with a subsequent “strange peppery feeling … gradually progressing to a burning, tearing sensation and tightness of the throat.” Symptoms continue to worsen until the patient can “barely swallow solid food because of the excruciating pain and the feeling of a huge obstructing pharyngeal lump.”
It’s weird that they’d call it manzanilla, when manzanilla is the name of a plant you’d make a tea with (and has no resemblance to apples).
