TIL about the Toronto Circus Riot of 1855 – A clown’s hat was knocked off in a brothel by a firefighter leading to a brawl between clowns and firefighters. The firefighters left and stormed the circus the next day with pikes and axes, setting fire to the wagons, tents and Big Top, brawling again.
