TIL after North Korean soldiers killed two members of a work crew that were trimming a tree in the demilitarized zone, America and South Korea launched Operation Paul Bunyan to cut down the tree with the aid of overwhelming force: 813 men, 27 helicopters, a tank. The tree was cut down successfully.

  1. It’s the most expensive tree ever cut down. I lived inside the DMZ for 3 months and we toured the whole area. The tree blocked the view from a guard shack known as the loneliest outpost in the world, which is why it was cut down.
