TIL alcohol sales are prohibited in some parts of the US on Sunday due to “Blue laws” which originate from religious beliefs that people should not drink during the Sabbath. Due to separation between church and state, the reason was changed to “curbing excessive alcohol consumption”.

  1. I remember flying into Detroit on Christmas Eve/day (1999-2001) and getting absolutely pissed that the business lounge had self serve beer taps but they were closed due to the holiday. I think it wasn’t until 2010 that the law was changed (to allow sales on sundays, Christmas Eve until 11:59, and Christmas afternoon 😂)
