You have to measure from the base.
Yup… I live on the Big Island and it is always strange to think that we live on the upper 1/3 of the mountain, even though I’m at sea level.
Also, there is a mountain in South America whose peak is farther away from the center of the Earth than Everest. However, due to Earth’s slight equatorial bulge, sea level in that area is also farther from the center than it is near Everest.
And Denali is the tallest land-based mountain from base to peak.
We can all agree that you have to measure from the base, but depending on where you call the base, you can claim some extra height when you’re looking to impress. if you know what I mean
It’s probably easier to climb too
I’ve never really understood this claim. Of you ignore sea level, everest would be higher from ocean floor to peak too.
