TIL Apple created a custom mouse colloquially nicknamed ‘the hockey puck’, that lasted for only two years, 1998-2000, before it was discontinued in favor of a more traditional shape. It is considered one of Apple’s more notorious flops.

I remember our library had these at the time.
My dad had one of these. Worst fucking thing but at least U didn’t need it to play nanoraptor.
They came color matched to whatever iMac they were. They were fine for Childs hands I suppose, I was a kid during those times. Remember them, and stealing the mouse balls…. I could see them not being ergonomic at all for adults, and a single button design is no bueno
I hated these fucking mice in the computer labs at Virginia Tech.
I had the orange one, it was replaced with an Intellimouse Explorer from MS. Best mouse ever made
No way to know just by touch which way was up.

These were the design for a 90s office. Colour! Like the mouse now, fashion before function.
