TIL Arthur Tudor, the older brother of Henry VIII, exchanged letters with his fiancée, Catherine of Aragon, in Latin. When they met in person they were unable to communicate however, as they had mastered different pronunciations of the language.

  1. I can relate.

    I took Latin in high school in Poland. I was surprised with the pronunciation of Latin in the English speaking countries, though I was never engaged to anyone who would write in Latin to me.

  2. I’m sure they overcame this problem fairly quickly. I mean they can just write down stuff and then say it out loud…after a bit you will pick up the accents.
