TIL Beethoven, wrestling with imminent deafness, withdrew to the small town of Heiligenstadt. At one point, he considered ending his existence, but he ultimately resolved to endure. Later, almost totally deaf, he composed his Ninth Symphony, considered one of the greatest musical works in history.
