TIL Between 1854 and 1929, an estimated 250,000 orphaned, abandoned, or homeless children were transported to rural communities by train across the country in hopes of providing a better life for them. These would become known as the “Orphan Trains”.

Did they achieve a better life? Or was this really about cities wanting to get rid of homeless kids?

So many of the posts on Reddit assume everyone knows the location they are referring to. It’s a big world and this is a global forum.
My grandmother was adopted out from one of those.
There’s a lot of stories coming out of England for these kind of things happening with transport to Canada and Australia as well.
Wasn’t the industrial revolution grand?
