TIL Captive male orcas have a 80-90% rate of dorsal fin collapse, the rate for wild orcas has been estimated at <1-23%. The main causes put forward are the change in diet, the lack of activity, and excessive time at the surface. Excessive surface time also causes sunburns and cataracts.
