TIL coin / button battery numbers reflect their physical size. For example the popular CR2032 battery you may have heard of means its 20MM in diameter and 3.2MM in height. The CR2477 is a 24MM diameter 7.7MM in height battery.

  1. Often a 2-letter code (sometimes on the side of the battery) where the first letter identifies the manufacturer and the second is the year of manufacture. For example:
    YN – the letter N is the 14th letter in the alphabet and indicates the cell was manufactured in 2014.
