TIL Currently, the NFL is classified as a non-profit but a few U.S. Senators and almost half a million people have signed a petition to strip the league of its tax-exempt status.

This is ancient history. The NFL voted to end its [tax-exempt status in April of 2015](https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-ends-tax-exempt-status-after-73-years-3-things-to-know/).
It’s obviously a for profit corporation and gets its own carve out because it’s the NFL.
