TIL: despite being notorious for the Jack the Ripper Murders in 1888 and a resultant reputation for violence and death, the Whitechapel district of London only had 95 reported “killings” between 1837-1901.

I imagine there was less population inflating the significance of those 95 and less crimes of such a horrific nature then to get a more jaded population that tunes it out
Human perception vs. Reality almost never align.
