TIL Despite its legendary success in most motorsport endeavors, Porsche has not entered a Formula 1 race as a manufacturer since 1962, and has only ever won 1 race in the sport. It had limited success as an engine supplier in the 1980s, but has not participated at all since 1991.

Because almost all of Porsche sporting heritage is in sports car racing.
As an engine supplier in F1, they did power 2 championship wining teams, and 3 driver championships. Which i would say is more than limited success
porsche is really well known in sports car and endurance racing but lacking in f1 or rally
Yet it’s still one of the most decorated manufacturer in autosport.

Also, that wiki contains 30 F1 engine wins in the 80’s, “limited success” isn’t really an apt qualifier.
I would kill to see them in F1. My favorite car maker…
