TIL Dolphins sleep ‘unihemispheric’. They rest one hemisphere of their brain at a time, and even sleep with one eye open. They cannot breathe unconsciously; they have to actively decide when to breathe & would drown if they slept ‘polyhemispheric’ like us.

Eye opening
Well makes sense I guess since they have to hold their breath underwater but wow what a chore!
This gives me a tremendous amount of anxiety for some reason… oh no, now I’m breathing manually and I can’t go back to sleep!!
