TIL Georg Wilhelm Richmann was the first person in history to have died while conducting electrical experiments. He was attending a meeting when he heard thunder, so he ran home to capture the event. A lightning ball appeared and collided with him, blew his shoes open and killed him.

Even back then, shoes off = dead.
I thought for sure this was going to be the inspiration for the Wilhelm Scream of movie and tv fame but apparently not.
