TIL grasshoppers & locusts are the same species. Grasshoppers are generally solitary & innocuous, but when overcrowded, a chemical releases in their brain which turns them into a locust — ravenous, horny, and attracted to large groups. Oddly enough, that brain chemical is: Serotonin

locust swarms are easily killed with baited pesticides
Fucking grasshoppers are so thick in the northern plains this year…. They’ve been eating the soft spots in wood fence posts and the power poles north of me
Entemologist from the state university told me that next year if it’s dry and their eggs all hatch, it’s gonna be like a biblical plague.
I’m spraying it at the next rave , maybe burning man .
