TIL: Gregory the Great- 6th Century Pope (and Saint) wrote of Mary Magdalene as a prostitute, despite there being no record of this in Scripture. Contemporary scholars agree that Mary Magdalene was likely an upper class woman who supported Jesus Christ- but not necessarily a prostitute.

So someone 5-6 hundred years after Jesus was alive decides she was a prozzy? Wonder what other lies could have been told in the past 2000 years…
Is there evidence that she was upper class or are both just as likely?
Couple of things stand out IMO. JC not being married even at 30. That was unusual. And also according to some Mary Magdalene was his favorite disciple and the future church was supposed to be headed by women. How wonderful that would have been.
“Believe me, he is not that great.”
-Mary Magdalene
Given that there’s barely evidence for Jesus this is hardly surprising
Based on what exactly was he wrong?
Almost all of the history of religious tradition says he was better informed.
I would REMIND you that almost all of Jesus’ female ancestors in the Bible (including His mother who had Him not having Him with her husband) where borderline errant women.
Now did they have sex or children it of wedlock? That would really upset Christian morality.
