TIL In 1835 chemists John Wheeley Lea and William Henry Perrins made a flavoring sauce that turned out to taste terrible. They left the bottle in the basement and forgot about it. Years later they found it, tasted the now fermented sauce, and loved it. Thus Worcestershire sauce was born.
