I’ve seen lots of different numbers reported for the exact length of the journey, 4,000 miles was the smallest.

    Some additional details: She was from a wealthy family descended fromSwedish nobility. He was a dalit, but had risen to fame through hisportrait of Indira Gandhi. When he left he had just $80 and earned food andshelter during the journey by making portraits of the locals.

    He crossed Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan to get to Europe.
