TIL in 1994, the then 17-year-old David Hahn made a nuclear reactor from batteries, old clocks, lanterns, uranium from Czechoslovakia and duct tape in a shed next to his mother’s house.

This is such a sad story.
A mind like his should have been nurtured and cherished. He was cleary curious and bright, able to act (somewhat) reasonably.
To die as he did, just seems like despite his best efforts the systems of our world failed him completely.
We see celebs and socialites earned honorary degrees just for being famous. This kid should have been swooped up and cultivated to the next big thing.
