TIL of the Chinese submarine Ming III, which was found drifting by fishermen in 2003 after all the crew asphyxiated from the diesel engine using all the oxygen. The dead sailors were all at their posts, implying they died quickly without knowing there was a problem.

… asphyxiation is not something would would describe as “quick.” It more so implies they likely got tired and foggy from oxygen depletion and then died quite slowly as their systems shut down.
