TIL prior to the work of Harvey Nininger (1887-1986) experts thought searching for meteorites was a waste of time. Starting in 1923, he was credited with half of all meteorite discoveries on earth by 1941.

  2. I have a short list of heroes, Harvey has a special place. A self-made millionaire from rusty rocks that nobody wanted. That’s about as good as it gets. An actual wholesome fortune that changed a field of study dramatically. I’d watch that movie.
